Greenwood Song
Afar and away on a green-wooded hill
Dee-diddle-dee-dee the blackbird does trill
Ring-a-ding-ding like a brook and a rill
Song of the greenwood, and my heart’s thrill
Take me on the wings of a blue butterfly
On sweet-scented pastures of grass let me lie
Let me gaze as the waters of the river flow by
My heart’s in the greenwood until I die
Deep in the greenwood will I make my nest
Deep in the shadow of a craggy hill-crest
There will I fly home and there will I rest
Home in the greenwood that I love best
